If tsukito did killed their mother then it's the fault of that violet aura sword if not it's probably the mask man who killed it and the mask man probably said tsukito killed his mother and after knowing that tsukito is now good

Even now we only get a scene upto a sword being dropped before him and him as a little kid clenching his fist. If he really did kill her himself, then there wouldn't be a good reason not to show it this time. So it's probably closer to him being brainwashed into thinking he willingly killed his mom.

But that whole scene overall is just very weirdly composed. 1 kid gets pushed into the river even before the dad makes his last stand, then with one kid left in the arms of his mother the father makes a desperate attack, but the mother doesn't use that opportunity to jump in the river with the remaining kid. Even when the bad guy asks the boy to come forward she just let's it all happen.

It's really hard to make out what these characters are actually thinking when they do each of these actions or what they hoped to accomplish with them.

I mean, imagine Ichibanboshi being pushed into the river, but next the dad actually manages to rustle down the assailant and save the remaining mother & son. That would just be comical.

hahaha yes that would be commical. then this show would probably be a show of a family looking for their missing son who had been pushed into the river. BUT the son is pissed at them and wants revenge and kills all - The end. XD

Even with that extended flashback, I still highly doubt that Rashomaru actually killed his mom because we didn't actually see it happen. Plus, he keeps repeating it over and over again that I don't believe him anymore.

Oh damn, this is pretty much the darkest hour. Ichibanboshi will surely be traumatized for a while and Shinsengumi is disbanded, but hopefully not for long. What will it take to get the group back together?
